July 2010 Staff Member of the Month: Laura Mendenhall

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare recently announced that Laura Mendenhall is G.V.M.H. Staff Member of the Month for July 2010.  Laura has been an employee of Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare since August 19, 2002.  She presently is a Physical Therapist with Home Services.      
           
A fellow employee nominated Laura and had the following to say about her:

“ Laura has worked for GVMH Home Services for eight years.  Her attendance record is impeccable and she is very dedicated to her patients.  She frequently exceeds expectations by helping identify opportunities for improvement in our department.  She helped develop problem-based care plans for our physical therapists to use to expedite their development of care plans for common problems.

Laura is flexible and easily adapts to changing needs.  She is always willing to take on extra patients and juggle schedules in order to provide needed coverage.  She also helps in other rehab areas within the organization when time allows.  She has helped to develop a workable system for our therapists to schedule their patients electronically, thus allowing office personnel to easily track their schedule when needed.

Laura receives many complimentary responses on our patient satisfaction surveys for providing caring, thorough, excellent attention to their needs.  She communicates well with co-workers thus improving the overall care of our patients.  She is quick to offer an encouraging word to co-workers and always displays a positive attitude.

Laura always has a smile and a friendly word for everyone.  She is a great role model for the frequent students who rotate through our department.  Her calm manner and positive demeanor contribute to excellent teamwork among co-workers.

Laura is active in her local church, as well as participating in community activities such as walks, the 5K run during Olde Glory Days, volunteering at fund raising activities sponsored by the Rehab Department or Home Services and helping to provide for needs within our community.”

In being named Staff Member of the Month, Laura was given a corsage and a $100.00 gift certificate.  Her name will be engraved on a plaque to be permanently displayed in the hospital.  Laura is also one of twelve finalists for the 2010-2011 Staff Member of the Year award.
