G.V.M.H. STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Golden Valley Memorial Hospital recently announced that Lois Wall is G.V.M.H. Staff Member of the Month for October 2008. Lois has been an employee of Golden Valley Memorial Hospital since May 27th, 1995. She presently is a Home Care Clerk.

A fellow employee nominated Lois and had the following to say about her:

“Lois has worked for Home Care for 13 years and had previously worked for Home Services for eight years with a couple of years elsewhere in between. Lois has been praised by all her supervisors for her outstanding performance, her flexibility and dependability, as well as her rapport with patients.

Lois has taken on many new duties without a complaint and has assisted in the restructuring that has taken place in the department and has worked to make sure the flow of work goes smoothly by offering suggestions for scheduling, developing a spread sheet to keep census up to date, and maintaining good communication with staff.

Lois is always positive and pleasant with everyone with whom she comes in contact, both patients and staff. She reports any problems or concerns promptly so they can be addressed and resolved. She often keeps a basket of candy on her desk so that when field staff come in they can have a treat.

Lois strives to handle calls from patients and staff with finesse, attempting to have the best outcome possible for all involved. She speaks positively about the hospital and promotes staff interaction and involvement. She always has a smile for everyone—even when she’s had a rough day.

Lois spends many of her evenings and weekends installing lifelines (emergency alert visits for home use) for people in a large surrounding area, providing a great service to the community. She also is very involved with the care of her handicapped grandson, making sure that his life is as pleasant as possible.”

In being named Staff Member of the Month, Lois was given a corsage, a $100.00 gift certificate, and a special parking place for the month. Her name will be engraved on a plaque to be permanently displayed in the hospital. Lois is also one of twelve finalists for the 2008-2009 Staff Member of the Year award.
