The 2010 Diabetes Walk will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Medical Plaza in Clinton, MO at 8 am. We are in need of team captains. Captains are in charge of getting participants to walk with you. A team can be anywhere from 2 - 20 people or more. The money raised stays locally and helps anyone in the area. This money can be used to buy prescriptions, education, diabetic shoes, eye exams, and dental exams. So come on out and support this cause! Come join us on Thursday, April 15, for a fun-filled day of health and wellness information. Men are welcome, but ladies, this one's for you. We'll start the day at 1 p.m. with several informative educational breakout sessions, followed by free health screenings, a health expo and capping the day with our award-winning keynote speaker, Karen Wingert, PT, MA, DPT, RN. Wingert is a clinical associate professor at the School of Health Professions within the University of Misssouri Health Systems. Wingert is known for her humorous and inspirational presentations, so bring your girlfriends! Several physicians, including Ken Holt, DO; Amber Campbell, DO; Brendan Bagley, MD; and Richard Woodland, DO, will be on hand for some of the sessions. Free screenings begin at 2 pm by appointment (please call 660-890-8452). Screenings include cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. An expo will be open from 4 - 7 p.m. and will feature a variety of vendor and health education booths with information for women. Hospice care is for people who are nearing the end of their lives and is designed to relieve or decrease pain, or other symptoms, and provide as much quality time as possible with family and friends. Join Dr. Bill Dailey Wednesday, March 17 at 12:00 noon at the Windsor Senior Center as he presents, “What You Need to Know About Hospice Care”. Stefanie Fiss of Lowry City knows first hand about how the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation assists patients. Stefanie has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her two pregnancies. Gestational diabetes is diagnosed in pregnant women around 28 weeks who have high blood sugar levels during their pregnancy. If left untreated it could harm the baby. There are 135,000 cases of gestational diabetes in the United States every year. more... |
