Every year, we hear about athletes that die of sudden cardiac death while participating in a sport. The Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Foundation has teamed up with the West Central Missouri Multisport Club (WCMMC), GVMH Rehab and Wellness, cardiologists from Saint Luke’s, and volunteer nurses to provide athlete heart screenings to help diagnose problems prior to a fatal accident. more...

Every first time mom experiences the nervous feeling of “What should I expect?” This is a natural concern and being well informed is the key to a healthy pregnancy. The GVMH Foundation believes that it is important that all new moms be educated to ensure the health of moms and babies. Over 200 people walked in the 2010 Diabetes Walk held on March 27 at the GVMH Medical Plaza. This year’s theme was “A Number Worth Knowing.” Over $14,000 was raised to help area diabetic patients pay for test strips, medication, education or other medically necessary items to help manage their diabetes. more pictures...
» Dining Out for Diabetes is a Success!

Pictured here are Leland and Gayla Smith, owners of Smith's Restaurant Express, Clinton, with Sarah Wagoner and Lance Wagoner. The Wagoner Family has a team to raise funds for the Walk. One of their fundraising activities included Dining Out for Diabetes on March 9 at Smith's Restaurant Express. Smith's Restaurant donated a portion of their evening's proceeds to the Wagoner Team and offered a Diabetic friendly meal as their dinner special. » GVMH Foundation Diabetes Walk Assists Patients

Stefanie Fiss of Lowry City knows first hand about how the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation assists patients. Stefanie has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her two pregnancies. Gestational diabetes is diagnosed in pregnant women around 28 weeks who have high blood sugar levels during their pregnancy. If left untreated it could harm the baby. There are 135,000 cases of gestational diabetes in the United States every year. more...
