» Rehabilitation Services Now Extended to Children

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare is pleased to offer enhanced pediatric physical therapy and occupational therapy services to the community.  Offering this specialty service, provided by experienced pediatric therapists, allows for improved care delivered here at home.  GVMH therapists are able to treat a variety of pediatric diagnoses, including sensory dysfunction, developmental and neurological deficits, and orthopedic conditions at our outpatient facility located in Clinton.

The GVMH Foundation awarded a $2,800 grant to the Rehab department to initiate this program which had not previously been available in this community. The Foundation grant will enable GVMH to begin to provide and grow needed pediatric therapy services on an ongoing basis.

For more information or to schedule an appointment with GVMH Rehab services, call 660-890-7190.

Cadence Kopp, 3 years old, has cerebral palsy and first began working with GVMH therapists in May of 2010.  She is pictured with Occupational Therapist Caitlin Eyberg, MOTR/L and Physical Therapist Rachel Boyles, MPT, MHA, working on fine and gross motor development through dynamic play activities.  Caitlin has spent the last 4 years working for the Shawnee Mission School district, and has received advanced training in sensory integration disorders.

» GVMH Foundation Aides Home Health in the Purchase of Coagucheck Kits

GVMH Home Services was pleased to receive two CoaguChek XS units from the GVMH Foundation recently.  The Coagucheck system allows for fingersticks to be done in the patient's home.  Results for bleed times are instant and can be called or faxed to the doctor, allowing them to receive the results in a timely manner, and make changes in the patient's medication dose promptly.  The use of these machines improves patient comfort and satisfaction, as they do not have to have a regular blood draw to obtain the results.  The fingersticks are much less painful, but the units still provide accurate results. Although Home Health has been using CoaguCheks for some time, the addition of two new machines allows greater availability for staff who are going different directions, and previously had to share units.

» Proceeds from "An Evening to Remember" Benefit the GVMH Radiology Department

The purchase of the Siemens Company multi modality workstation keeps GVMH’s Radiology Department at the forefront in medical imaging.

GVMH continues to see the benefits of the Foundation’s Annual Evening to Remember 2010. The equipment purchased with proceeds from the event is installed and working smoothly. The multi modality workstation enables our Radiologist and technicians to get better images of the brain and legs which can potentially detect problems in time for corrective therapy.

Technicians Ann James and Jeremy Simmons say this about the new workstation:  “We appreciate so much what the new workstation has done, not only for us, but especially for our patients.  It has turned an hour long test into a fifteen minute superior examination.  Absolutely awesome!  The images are incredible, the workflow is improved, and our patients are the beneficiaries of this addition to our imaging center.” GVMH appreciates all donors who made this possible.
