Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare is celebrating National Surgical Technologist Week, September 21-27

Along with thousands of surgical technologists around the country, the surgical team at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare is celebrating National Surgical Technologist Week, September 21-27.

Surgical technologists are allied health professionals who are educated to work in the operating room as an integral part of the surgical team.  Surgical technologists assist in surgeries under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses or other surgical personnel.

Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes and sterile solutions.

Technologists cover the patients with sterile surgical drapes and assist other members of the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
During surgery, technologists pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants. They may hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies and instruments. Surgical technologists help prepare and care for specimens from surgery.

After surgery, the surgical technologist helps the team to prepare for the next patient.  They remove used disposable items and process instruments and equipment so that they are ready for later use.

The surgical staff's goal is to provide you with the highest level of medical care and excellence in service. Please help us acknowledge the expertise that our Surgical Technologists provide to our patients, the hospital and the community.
