Excellence in Clinical Nursing Awards Presented to GVMH Staff

GVMH recently presented two “Excellence Awards.” One award was presented to a staff member who works in a clinical setting and the other was awarded to a non-clinical staff member. The purpose of the “Excellence in Clinical Nursing” award is to recognize outstanding staff in the division of nursing and to honor a staff member that provides direct care to patients. Award winners strive to make a difference every day and embody the GVMH values of compassion, professionalism, excellence and accountability – individuals committed to building a healthy America.  The awards are presented annually during Nurses Week and requires rigorous criteria be met as well as an individual being nominated by more than one person.

The 2010 “Excellence in Clinical Nursing” award winner was Norma Jean Burnett, RN, BSN. Norma Jean truly lives up to our organizational values of compassion, professionalism, excellence and accountability. She began working at GVMH in July 1977 and has worked in OR, been a nurse director of ICU, a certified critical care nurse and she currently works in the Endoscopy Department. Norma Jean is also an educator; she teaches cardiac rhythm interpretation classes and assists staff learning advanced cardiac life support. In addition to this, Norma Jean is a great clinician. Patients request her for their procedures, knowing she is compassionate, professional and very skilled in what she does. Please join GVMH in congratulating Norma Jean for being selected for this year’s Excellence in Clinical Nursing award winner.

The winner of the non-licensed staff member “Excellence Award” was Carol Dymond.  Carol is the Administrative Assistant of Patient Care Services.  She started working at GVMH as a unit secretary on the surgical floor in March 2005. In 2006, she was promoted to Administrative Assistant to the Division of Patient Care Services. Carol is the “go-to” person for many different people.  Anytime someone has a question and they don’t know where to turn, they call Carol.  “Carol is my compass.  She keeps me headed in the right direction and keeps me on time,” says Mark Mattes, Assistant Administrator-Patient Care Services.
