Sherry Collins Achieves Certified Diabetes Educator Status

The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced that Sherry Loudermilk Collins MS, RD, LD, CDE Achieved Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators. Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be able to take the Examination. Achieving certification status demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes. Currently, there are almost 16,000 diabetes educators who hold NCBDE certification.
NCBDE was established in 1986 to develop and administer a certification program for health care professional who teach individuals with diabetes how to manage their disease. Through the development, maintenance, and protection of the certification process and the CDE credential, NCBDE recognizes and advances the specialty educators who meet credential and experience eligibility requirements.
Sherry has been employed at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare for 15 years as a Clinical Dietitian providing outpatient nutrition counseling services and diabetes education through the Diabetes Skills and Self Management Program. This program is recognized through the American Diabetes Association offering services for those with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and pre-diabetes. It is a comprehensive diabetes management program, which includes Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), diabetes classes, self-management education, insulin starts and insulin pump initiation and monitoring.
