Emergency Services Week Will be Celebrated at GVMH May 17-23rd, 2009

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare’s Emergency Department will celebrate Emergency Medical Services Week in May.  The 2009 theme is “A Proud Partner in Your Community”.    Emergency Medical Services Week was created more than 35 years ago to shine a spotlight on EMS providers.  These fire and police first responders, paramedics, EMTs and emergency room doctors, nurses and staff number 750,000 in the United States.  EMS Week is the time to say thanks to this group of lifesaving professionals and to increase awareness of the essential services they provide.  In addition, the week has expanded into an occasion for informing the public about personal safety, injury prevention and the handling of emergencies.

A Summer Time basket and a First Aid Kit raffle will begin May 1st and last through EMS Week.  On Thursday May 21, GVMH will have an EMS Challenge event on the hospital grounds outside of Admitting from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. Along with GVMH Emergency Department employees, other area emergency professionals will compete challenges that will include a donut eating contest, relay with obstacle course and tug of war.   Hotdogs, chips and drinks will be available along with treats and giveaways (nice give aways!) for both adults and children.  Drawings for gift certificates and other items will be held every 30 minutes during the challenge event.   Provided we have good weather, Life Flight Eagle, Air Evac, and Staff for Life air ambulance will be present along with Clinton Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol with the "roll over car", a truck from the Clinton Fire Department and the GVMH Ambulance.

All proceeds from the raffle will go to benefit the Edna Jones Eyeglass Fund and Samaritan Center.  Please join GVMH EMS staff on May 21 for a fun event!  For more information about this event, call 890-7182.
