INPATIENT REHABILITATION UNIT

Tour our department

In 2004, Golden Valley Memorial Hospital opened an Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit to provide rehabilitation services to patients with a wide variety of medical conditions including orthopedic, trauma, stroke, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease and more. This unit provides a comprehensive continuum of care for patients at different stages of rehabilitation and recovery. Our goal is to get each patient back to the highest functional level they can achieve and prepare them to return back to their homes.

Interdisciplinary care planning, case management coordination, and patient and family education are important parts of each patient's overall care. The inpatient rehabilitation unit provides the community with rehabilitation services closer to home.

To qualify for inpatient rehabilitation services, a patient must be medically stable and need additional therapy by rehabilitation professionals to resume activities of daily living.

Candidates for admission to the Rehabilitation Unit have a variety of diagnoses, including major joint replacement, hip fracture, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and other common illnesses. Although patients frequently will move to the Rehabilitation Unit from another unit within Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, the Rehabilitation Unit also accepts admissions from other hospitals, nursing facilities, assisted living facilities or from a home setting. Dr. George Perkins oversees the Rehab Unit, a board certified orthopedic surgeon who came to Golden Valley following twenty-five years of practice in the Kansas City area.

The Rehabilitation Unit is located on the east end of the third floor in the area previously utilized by the Skilled Nursing Unit. The unit includes eight private rooms, an “activities of daily living” apartment, and group dining area and activity/gym area.

For additional questions, to request a pre-admission screening, to tour the Rehabilitation Unit, or for more information call Amanda Lankford, Rehabilitation Unit Program Director at 660-890-7341.
