NUTRITION & DIETETICS SERVICES

Hospital and Home Diet: Proper diet is essential to a patient’s treatment and recovery. A physician prescribes a patient’s hospital diet along with medications. Sometimes therapeutic snacks are ordered to assist with treatment. GVMH offers a wide variety of diets. A registered dietitian or member of our nutrition services staff gladly answers any questions that patients may have about food, diet or possible drug-food interactions. Our professional staff helps patients understand their ‘home’ diet before leaving the hospital. Outpatient counseling is also available for more in-depth information.
Food Allergies, Intolerances or Special Needs: If a patient has any food allergies, intolerances or special needs, the nurse will forward the information to Nutrition & Dietetic Services.
Comfort Foods and Beverage Cart: Special foods are available to patients throughout the day or evening based on the diet prescribed. Items include soft custard, ice cream or sherbet, gelatin, saltines, milk, etc. Our hospital volunteers operate an evening beverage cart Monday through Friday.
Guest Meals: Guests may choose to take a tray from The Eatery back to a patient’s room, or they may request the meal of the day be delivered to a patient’s room. For a parent staying with a child fifteen years or younger, one courtesy tray will be provided at each meal.
