Why Getting a COVID-19 Vaccine is Important

At Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, we are currently seeing a tremendous increase in COVID-19 cases in our communities. In fact, we are busier now than at any previous point during the pandemic.

We are concerned about this for several reasons:

  • The Delta variant spreads much easier than the original strain of COVID-19
  • Symptoms of the Delta variant can be more severe
  • The surge is putting a strain on Missouri hospitals, including GVMH
  • The increase in COVID-19 cases makes it challenging to keep our facility adequately staffed
  • Our hospital is at capacity and it is difficult to find anywhere for patients to go as other hospitals
    are also full
  • Caring for COVID patients reduces our capabilities to care for patients with other healthcare concerns and time sensitive emergencies such as heart attack, stroke and trauma
  • Healthcare organizations may run out of medical supplies due to the high demand for care

As your medical experts, we are asking you to consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine if you have not already. The vaccine is free and is available to anyone age 12 and older. It is important to protect yourself, your family and help stop the spread of the virus.

We understand you may have questions or concerns about the vaccine and encourage you to talk to your trusted primary care provider. We are here to help you. You can reach us at 660.890.7300.

In the meantime, while the number of COVID-19 cases is so high, we encourage you to:

  • Wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission to maximize protection from the Delta variant
  • Ensure your mask covers your nose and mouth
  • Stay six feet apart from others who do not live with you
  • Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water
  • Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available

Help us put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sincerely,
