Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Clinton, Mo. – (Oct. 6, 2022) – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare is encouraging women over 40 to schedule their annual mammogram to look for early signs of breast cancer.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, except for skin cancers, and when it comes to increasing changes of survival, early detection is key,” said Olivia Cody, Assistant Director of Imaging Services at GVMH. “The best methods of early detection include monthly self-breast exams, regular clinical breast exams and yearly mammograms.”

A mammogram can often find breast cancer at an early stage, years before physical symptoms develop. According to the American Cancer Society, physical symptoms of breast cancer may include a new lump or mass in the breast or underarm, swelling or pain of the breast, skin dimpling, dry or flaking breast skin and swollen lymph nodes under the arm or near the collar bone.
