The Legacy of Our Golden Standard of Care

Since 1972, Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare has been committed to offering expert care close to home. Over the past five decades, we have expanded our facilities, services and provider network to better serve the healthcare needs of our communities.

1966

  • Dr. Gus Wetzel Sr. and Dr. R.S. Hollingsworth coauthor a petition to establish a public hospital in Clinton, MO
  • The hospital district is approved in a vote, 791-480
  • Charles and Elizabeth Gaines generously donate 20 acres of land for the construction of the new hospital

1972

  • Golden Valley Memorial Hospital opens its doors on February 29, 1972, with approximately 175 employees and 100 beds
  • 54 patients are transferred from General Hospital and Wetzel Hospital to GVMH with another 14 patients admitted that day
  • GVMH welcomed its first baby that day, a baby girl, born to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Mitchell of Sugar Creek

1975-1976

  • GVMH acquires the operation of ambulance services, Nuclear Medicine opens and the Golden Valley Hospital Auxiliary is formed
  • Hospital receives accreditation from Joint Commission 

1982-1984

  • Heliport transportation is completed, and the first Life Flight patient is transported
  • Completed construction on new Outpatient Surgery and Admitting areas
  • Home Health Agency is established

1989

  • Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation is formed

1993

  • A new Home Health Services building opens, due to growing demand for care

1997

  • The hospital celebrates 25 years
  • Surgery department expansion is completed, along with expanded facilities for Inpatient, Outpatient and Recovery Services. The project also included a new Birthing Center, Endoscopy, Oncology and Urology areas, and updates for Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and Social Services

2006-2007

  • Golden Valley Medical expands to Clinton, Warsaw and Windsor locations

2008

  • Hospital name is changed from Golden Valley Memorial Hospital to Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare to communicate the breadth of services

2010

  • Walk-in Clinic and Cardiology Services now offered in Clinton

2014

  • Opened Golden Valley Medical – Osceola

2018-2019

  • Twin Lakes Hospice is acquired
  • Cancer Center opens November 2019
  • Acquired Saint Luke’s Medical – Clinton
  • GVMH cares for first COVID-19 positive patient in Missouri

2021

  • Named high-throughput vaccine provider for Missouri
  • East Campus opens
  • Approval is received for Radiation Oncology Services

2022

  • GVMH has more than 950 employees
  • Virginia Graham is the first employee to celebrate 50 years at GVMH

2024

  • New Therapy Services facility in Warsaw opens
