Therapy Services

Our therapy services focus on providing patients with improvement in quality-of-life and functional ability. We provide physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology services.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapists (PTs) teach patients how to prevent or manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits. PTs examine each individual and develop a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function and prevent disability. In addition, PTs work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.

Speech Therapy

Speech language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults.

  • Cognitive-communication disorders include problems organizing thoughts, paying attention, remembering, planning and/or problem solving.
  • Language disorders occur when a person has trouble understanding others or sharing thoughts, ideas and feelings.
  • Social communication disorders occur when a person has trouble with the social use of verbal and nonverbal communication.
  • Speech disorders occur when a person has difficulty producing speech sounds correctly.
  • Swallowing disorders are feeding or swallowing difficulties, which may follow an illness, surgery, stroke or injury.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recover from injury to regain skills, and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes.

Utilizing adaptive equipment, behavioral modification strategies, custom splinting, developmental training, and fine motor skills and work conditioning are all methods to help our patient achieve their therapeutic goals.

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic therapy can be offered in addition to traditional therapy services and is helpful for individuals with chronic pain, limited weight bearing or mobility issues. Many patients with orthopedic or neurological conditions may benefit from this type of therapy.

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare is committed to helping employers provide a safe work environment for employees and to hire people with the necessary capabilities to perform their job safely.
