Family Medicine Residency Program

Launching in 2028

Build a Legacy. Start Here.

Train Broadly. Lead Confidently. Practice Where You Matter.

At Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, you are not joining an established residency program. You are helping build one.

As a founding resident, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the culture, traditions and future of a program designed to train outstanding family physicians who will serve rural and community populations for generations.

Our Family Medicine Residency Program combines comprehensive clinical training, individualized mentorship and leadership development within a physician-led health system committed to excellence.

If you are looking for a place where you will be known personally, challenged professionally and prepared for independent practice, you will find it here.

Become a Founding Resident

Most residency programs offer training. GVMH offers the chance to make an impact.

As a founding resident, you will train in an environment where physicians, administrators and faculty know you by name and are invested in your success. Unlike larger academic centers, you will gain meaningful clinical responsibility early, perform procedures, build lasting patient relationships and work directly with experienced physicians committed to teaching and mentorship.

Through Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare’s participation in Mayo Clinic Platform, residents gain access to innovative technology, data-driven insights and resources from one of the world’s leading healthcare organizations while preserving the autonomy, hands-on experience and breadth of training that make rural medicine unique.

At GVMH, you’ll graduate with the confidence, clinical judgment and leadership skills needed to thrive in virtually any practice setting.

Academic and Innovation Partnerships

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare’s participation in Mayo Clinic Platform and partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine strengthen the resident experience through access to academic collaboration, innovative technology, educational resources and physician development opportunities. These partnerships complement the hands-on training, individualized mentorship and broad clinical experience that define the GVMH Family Medicine Residency Program.

Train, Don’t Wait

At many larger academic centers, residents compete for procedures, patient encounters and faculty attention.

At GVMH, you will gain meaningful responsibility early.

Residents are active members of the care team and contribute to clinical decision-making while developing the skills, confidence and judgment necessary for independent practice. Our intentionally small program provides direct faculty access, meaningful patient care responsibilities and hands-on learning opportunities beginning early in training.

The program is designed to support professional growth while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and physician leadership.

Full-Scope Family Medicine Training

Residents gain experience across the full spectrum of family medicine, including:

  • Behavioral Health
  • Community Health
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Geriatrics
  • Hospital Medicine
  • Inpatient Medicine
  • Obstetrics and Women’s Health
  • Outpatient Family Medicine
  • Population Health
  • Procedural Medicine
  • Rural Medicine

Residents maintain a continuity patient panel throughout residency, developing long-term relationships with patients while assuming increasing responsibility under faculty supervision.

Growing, Multi-Campus Health System

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare is a comprehensive regional health system with more than 70 providers, four outpatient clinics and one hospital campus.

Residents gain experience in inpatient, outpatient, emergency, obstetric and procedural settings within a collaborative care model.

Training within a rural health system provides exposure to a broad range of patients, diagnoses and procedures that many residents do not encounter until later in practice. This breadth of experience helps graduates develop the versatility and confidence needed for successful practice in rural, community and health system settings.
