Family Medicine Residency Program
Launching in 2028, Clinton, Missouri
Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) is launching a Family Medicine Residency Program in 2028 designed to deliver rigorous clinical training, individualized mentorship and meaningful leadership development opportunities within a supportive rural health system. This is not simply a residency-it is an opportunity to help build a program from the ground up within a forward-thinking health system committed to developing exceptional family physicians who will serve their communities for decades to come.
Residents at GVMH train in a physician-led environment with access to more than 70 providers across four clinics and one hospital campus. Designed to combine the personalized attention of a smaller program with the clinical breadth of a regional health system, the residency offers exceptional opportunities for hands-on learning, progressive responsibility and meaningful collaboration with experienced physicians and healthcare professionals.
Through GVMH’s affiliation with the Mayo Clinic Platform, residents have access to nationally recognized expertise, clinical resources and collaborative consultation while maintaining the autonomy and broad clinical exposure that define rural medicine. As valued members of the care team, residents actively participate in patient care decisions, build lasting relationships with patients and faculty and develop the confidence, clinical judgment and leadership skills needed for successful independent practice. With direct access to faculty and meaningful patient care experiences from the start of training, residents gain opportunities that are often difficult to find in larger academic environments and leave prepared not only to practice medicine, but to lead, advocate and make a difference in the lives of their patients and communities.
Breadth of Experience. Depth of Training.
The Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Main Campus serves as the primary training and rotation site for Family Medicine residents. As a comprehensive regional health system consisting of four outpatient clinics and one hospital campus. Residents gain experience across the full continuum of care, including inpatient, outpatient, obstetric, emergency and procedural settings within a collaborative, integrated care model.
The program’s rural setting provides the breadth and depth needed to develop strong clinical judgment and preparation for independent practice. Residents care for a diverse patient population, follow patients across care settings and participate in a wide range of procedures and obstetric experiences that support full-scope family medicine training.
Residents train in a high-volume clinical environment that includes more than 18, 213 annual Emergency Department visits, 283 births, 3,580 surgical cases, 2,182 inpatient admissions, 155,445 clinic visits, and 235,192 outpatient visits each year.
These experiences provide meaningful clinical exposure and progressive responsibility throughout residency while preparing physicians to practice confidently in rural, community and regional healthcare settings.
Designed for Customization and Clinical Depth
Our 36-month ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency Program combines the comprehensive training required for full-scope family medicine with the flexibility to pursue individual interests and career goals. Significant elective time is built into the curriculum, allowing residents to customize their training through focused experiences in areas such as obstetrics, hospital medicine, procedural care and other specialties aligned with their future practice plans.
With access to more than 70 providers across multiple specialties, residents gain broad clinical exposure while maintaining continuity of care in a community-based setting. Throughout the program, each resident develops and manages a continuity patient panel, building long-term relationships with patients while assuming increasing responsibility for clinical decision-making under faculty guidance. This balance of personalization, continuity and diverse clinical experiences prepares graduates for a variety of career paths, including rural practice, fellowship training and physician leadership opportunities.
